Brenda Swinton-Day

Brenda Swinton-Day, of Little Rock, Arkansas, is an elementary teacher who teaches 5th grade at J.A. Fair K-8 Preparatory in the Little Rock School District. Being born into a family of educators she always had a passion to continue impacting the lives of children just as her grandparents and mother had. Therefore, she picked up the mantle and continued to be a positive role model and daily difference maker in her community. Brenda is aware of the importance and the profound impact education has on our lives and strongly believes every child deserves a champion.
In addition to teaching she is the middle school Volleyball Coach, served as English as a Second Language Program Coordinator, nominated 2019 LRSD Teacher of the Year, and initiated a program, Saturdays at the Library, to encourage parents to take their children to their local public library. On the fourth Saturday of each month she hosts “A ‘Day’ at the Library”, incorporating literacy, story time, science, a STEM based activity, and nutrition, a snack. In return she asks that the parent(s) participate in the activities with their child or children. Her goal over the years has been to stress the importance of literacy awareness, importance of real world experiences, and importance of creating and inspiring parental involvement opportunities outside of her classroom. At J.A. Fair K-8 Preparatory she also facilitates Parenting Partners workshops.
Within her community she works closely with Philander Smith College Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, City of Little Rock Summer Program, ACT/Tutor Workshops, REAL Deal in the ROCK, SWLR Christmas Parade, National Night Out (SWLR), OUR Neighborhood Association, OCHOA, WAND and the Pulaski County Democratic Women of Arkansas.
Brenda holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education 1-6 and Middle School Social Studies 5-8 from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and ESOL Endorsement, Master of Science in Education Advanced Instructional Studies: English as a Second Language, from Henderson State University Graduate School and is currently working towards her Gifted and Talented Endorsement.
